For professional commercial drivers, it’s important to know that medical exam standards have recently changed. The DOT has always followed strict guidelines mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), ensuring that commercial drivers and other safety-sensitive employees are in good health and able to work safely.
Now, however, federal law requires that providers of these exams to be certified, and this complex certification process has radically reduced the number of medical providers that can perform CDL evaluations, leaving only the best and the most competent doctors to perform these examinations.
